The South India Temple Tour follows the classic pilgrim route from Chennai to Rameswaram in ten days, travelling one way so no day is lost driving back. It begins with Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala and Goddess Padmavathi at Tiruchanur, continues through Kanchipuram, one of the seven Moksha-giving cities, and Chidambaram, where Shiva dances as Nataraja, then reaches the three UNESCO-listed Great Living Chola Temples at Gangaikonda Cholapuram, Darasuram and Thanjavur.
From Srirangam, the largest functioning Hindu temple in the world, the route goes to Meenakshi Amman in Madurai and ends at Rameswaram, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and the southern seat of the Char Dham, with the dawn Spatika Lingam darshan and the bath at the 22 sacred wells. Along the way it covers four of the five Pancha Bhuta Sthalas: earth at Kanchipuram, wind at Srikalahasti, water at Thiruvanaikaval and space at Chidambaram.
You travel in a private AC car with your own driver, stay in hotels close to the temples, and we book your Tirumala darshan slot as soon as TTD releases it. For a day-by-day guide with drive times, read our South India temple tour itinerary.
