The Shri Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra is a 10-day (9 nights) guided trek package from Shimla to the Shrikhand Mahadev Shivling in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, priced from ₹ 38,000 per person. The Shivling is a natural rock pillar about 72 feet tall at roughly 5,227 m, and the climb is counted among the hardest pilgrimages in India. It can only be done in the window the Kullu district administration notifies each year, usually mid-July to mid-August.
The trip starts with a road journey from Shimla via Rampur to Jaon near Nirmand, where you can visit the old Parashuram temple. From the Singhad base camp, the trek climbs through forest to Thachru, then up the steep Kali Ghati to Bhim Dwar, and on to the high meadows of Parvati Bagh. Summit day starts around 1-2 AM, passes the sacred Nain Sarovar lake and crosses rock and possible snow before darshan, then returns to Parvati Bagh. The descent takes two more days. The trail is about 32 km one way, ponies are not practical, and every pilgrim walks the whole route.
The package includes hotel and tented stays, breakfast and dinner, a private AC vehicle from Shimla to Shimla, help with Yatra registration at Singhad, compulsory registered guides, porters for common equipment, and a first-aid kit with oxygen carried by the team. Pilgrims must also pass the administration's medical check-up at base camp. High-altitude insurance with evacuation cover is mandatory for this trip and is not included, nor is personal trekking gear. This yatra is only for fit, ideally trek-experienced pilgrims.
