The Shri Kinnaur Kailash Yatra is a 6-night, 7-day trek package from Shimla to the Kinnaur Kailash Shivling, a natural rock pillar about 79 feet tall that stands at roughly 4,800 metres below the Kinnaur Kailash peak in Himachal Pradesh. Pilgrims worship the pillar as Lord Shiva, and Parvati Kund, the glacial lake on the way, is believed to be where Goddess Parvati bathed. The package starts and ends in Shimla and is priced from ₹24,500 per person, with GST extra.
Day 1 is the drive up the Sutlej valley via Narkanda and Rampur to Sarahan, with darshan at Bhimakali Temple. Day 2 continues to Kalpa via Recong Peo, where the evening view of the Kinnaur Kailash range gives you the first sight of the mountain. On Day 3 you drive to Tangling, register for the Yatra and trek about 6-7 km to the tented camp at Ganesh Park. Day 4 climbs about 7 km above the treeline to camp near Parvati Kund. Day 5 is darshan day: up to Parvati Kund and the viewpoint facing the Shivling, then back to camp. Day 6 is the 13 km descent to Tangling and the drive to Kalpa, and Day 7 the long drive back to Shimla.
The price covers six nights' stay (hotels at Sarahan and Kalpa, tents with basic bedding at Ganesh Park and Parvati Kund), breakfast and dinner, a private AC vehicle from Shimla, registration help at Tangling, a trek guide with support staff, and basic first aid. Porters, lunch, personal trekking gear and insurance are extra. The trail above Ganesh Park is steep, rocky and exposed, with limited pony access, so this Yatra suits fit walkers. Early morning departure by road from Shimla to Sarahan (approx. 180km, 7 hours), via Narkanda and Rampur. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and visit the Bhimakali Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and a striking example of traditional Bushahr royal architecture combining Hindu and Buddhist styles. Overnight stay in Sarahan.

Register at Tangling
Registration with the local Yatra administration at Tangling is mandatory before starting the trek — carry a valid photo ID for this purpose.
Train Specifically for This Trek
The rocky, exposed terrain above Ganesh Park is more demanding than typical hill treks — build up cardio fitness and, if possible, some prior trekking practice before attempting this Yatra.
Pack Warm, Windproof Layers
Nights at Ganesh Park and Parvati Kund are cold even in August, and wind at altitude can be significant — carry thermal wear, a windproof/waterproof jacket, gloves, and a warm cap.
Sturdy, Broken-In Trekking Shoes
Essential given the rocky trail conditions above Ganesh Park — this is not a route for new or unfamiliar footwear.
Carry Personal Medicines & a Basic Kit
Altitude-relief medication (consult your doctor beforehand), paracetamol, ORS, and any regular prescriptions — pharmacy access beyond Kalpa is very limited.
Keep Cash Handy
ATMs and card acceptance are unreliable beyond Recong Peo/Kalpa; carry sufficient cash for the trek days.
Mobile Connectivity Is Very Limited
Networks are patchy beyond Kalpa and largely unavailable on the trek — inform family of limited contact during trek days.
Travel Light
Given limited pony access on the upper stretches, pack in a single manageable bag and keep a small daypack for the trek; consider a porter for anything beyond essentials.
Move at Your Own Pace
Do not rush on the climb to Parvati Kund; altitude can affect even fit individuals — inform your guide immediately of any headache, breathlessness, or dizziness.
Respect the Environment
This is a fragile, dry alpine ecosystem — carry back all non-biodegradable waste and avoid single-use plastics.
