Travel tips

Carry Valid ID at All Times

A government-issued photo ID is mandatory at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple security gate, for Bhasma Aarti entry at Mahakaleshwar, and at railway stations - carry the original and two photocopies of each document.

Book Early

Bhasma Aarti slots at Mahakaleshwar and preferred train berths on the Delhi-Varanasi corridor are in high demand - book this Yatra at least 30 days in advance, and during peak pilgrimage seasons (Sawan, Mahashivratri, Navratri) at least 60 days in advance.

Pack Warm for Early Mornings

The Bhasma Aarti begins before dawn (4:00 AM) and the Ganga boat ride is at first light - winter mornings in Varanasi and Ujjain can be very cold (5°C-10°C). A warm jacket, shawl or stole, and comfortable closed footwear are essential for both these early morning activities.

Leave Electronics at the Hotel Before Temple Visits

Mobile phones and cameras are deposited at the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor cloakroom. It is more convenient to leave all non-essential electronics at your hotel before visiting the temple so you can proceed through security quickly and without distraction.

Carry Prasad and Offerings

Bilva (bel) leaves, white flowers, milk, and honey are auspicious offerings for Shiva darshan - available from vendors near both temples. Our team can advise on temple-specific preferences for Kashi Vishwanath and Mahakaleshwar.

Comfortable Footwear

Both the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and the Mahakal Lok are long pedestrian walkways; the Triveni Sangam involves boat access and ghat steps. Wear comfortable sandals or chappals that can be removed easily at temple entrances.

Carry Adequate Cash

ATMs may be congested near temple precincts during busy periods - carry sufficient cash for donations, personal prasad, boat rides, and incidental expenses at both Varanasi and Ujjain.

Ganga Ritual Bath at Varanasi

If you wish to take a ritual dip in the Ganga, carry a change of clothing in your daypack on Day 2. Early morning (before sunrise) is the most auspicious and peaceful time at the ghats.

Respect Temple Protocols

Both the Kashi Vishwanath and Mahakaleshwar Temples have strict dress codes and conduct guidelines - shoulders and knees must be covered, leather items must be removed, and maintaining silence and decorum in the inner sanctum is expected. Our team will brief you before each visit.
